System Administrator II

 

You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting all company applications, operating systems, and hardware, including development servers, workstations, laptops, hosted servers, cloud environments, networks, and telephone systems. You will also supervise and direct outside IT contractors.

Areas of Accountability

 

  • Configure, install, operate, and maintain all hosted systems for clients and internal systems, including maintaining the critical business infrastructure at Controltec. Assists VP of Operations or Manager of IT in system architecture design.
  • Work with Development and QA departments to create, support, and maintain the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline and associated components such as, but not limited to, Team Foundation Server, GIT repositories, Octopus Deploy.
  • Monitor the performance of all hardware and software systems and troubleshoot any issues during daily operations.
  • Assist with IT tasks, tickets, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Maintain product installations, including publishing applications (.NET, .NET Core, and other technologies) and related web services, upgrading such applications, and coordinating with the various technical teams associated.
  • Work with Controltec’s support group in the process of troubleshooting client installations, whether the root cause is internal or external to Controltec.
  • Work with the VP of Operations to plan, execute, and support lift and shift and new environment stand-up projects stemming from new clients onboarding or maintaining existing environments.
  • Coordinate and maintain all company server backups and associated documentation. Participate in and record all quarterly backup testing drill outcomes.
  • Work with and provide direction to Controltec’s help desk supervisor or technicians to triage and resolve issues outside of the help desk’s domain knowledge.
  • Assist the VP of Operations in ensuring best practices are documented, applied, and maintained through various environments, focusing on security compliance.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for the department.

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of network architecture and deployment, operating systems, and desktop application software is required.  The candidate must have superior organizational and troubleshooting skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Familiarity with Microsoft operating systems, network products, office products required.
  • 2+ years experience working with AWS or Azure.
  • B.S. Computer Science or equivalent job experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of IT security (Encryption, firewalls, vulnerability management, credential management)
  • Passionate about IT, technology, and following the latest industry trends.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • 2+ years of experience working with Linux.
  • Experience managing help desk technicians.
